From Mic to Set: The Real Journey of an Actress Born to Tell Stories

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew there was something magical about bringing words to life. I’d spend entire afternoons writing scripts, performing in my room, and directing little plays for my family.

Acting wasn’t just play—it was my first love.

Years later, that love became my profession. For over 18 years, I’ve worked as a voice actress, professional voiceover artist, and singer, collaborating with international brands, dubbing studios, and audiovisual production companies. My recording studio—my “creative spaceship”—is where emotion and technology come together every day.

But as much as I adore everything I do behind the mic, there’s always been a part of me longing for more. That “more” is visual storytelling: film, TV, acting in front of the camera. And today, I’m diving into that childhood dream with everything I’ve got. I’m currently training, evolving, and channeling my voice experience into body language, expression, and screen presence.

I’m bilingual (Spanish/English) and deeply passionate about the present and future of audiovisual arts. I’ve also started exploring filmmaking powered by artificial intelligence.

I have just written and produced STILL THERE, a short film made entirely with A.I tools like MidJourney and Runway, and submitted it to the first international film festival for A.I.-created short films.

🎤 FAQ – Joanna Rubio Answers

1. What kind of training have you done to move from voice-over work to on-camera acting?

I’ve been working with my voice for years, but acting has always been a true passion of mine. To transition to on-camera work, I trained in screen acting techniques, body language, and emotional expression. I’ve worked with amazing coaches who helped me adapt my voice-centered skills to the visual and physical demands of film and TV.

2. What have been the biggest challenges in moving from behind the mic to in front of the camera?

One of the biggest challenges has been stepping out of the comfort zone of the recording booth. Everything changes on set—from how you carry yourself to interacting with other actors and the crew. In voice-over, you can hide behind the mic; on camera, there’s nowhere to hide. It’s been a vulnerable but beautiful journey of growth and discovery.

3. What kind of projects excite you most in this new chapter of your career?

I’m drawn to projects that tell meaningful stories. I love being part of films and shows that spark emotion and reflection—projects that feel real and honest. I’m also excited by innovation, like creating content with AI, as I did with my short film STILL THERE. I’m always open to creative challenges that inspire me and push my limits.
